 "Excellent investment" 2009-11-21

I'm very satisfied with this netbook. Very lightweight. Excellent price! The only thing I have to get used to is the keyboard- it just needs some getting used to. I highly recommend this product.

"Great value! lightweight and speedy. No real upgrades though" 2009-11-18

First off, ill go with the cons, and there arnt that many.

upgrading the ram is MUCH dissecting, im a technician and i would NOT recommend anyone to upgrade the ram themselves. ALSO there is only 1 ram slot, ...so if you had an extra half gig chip of DDR2 notebook ram lying around, you wont be able to put it in to bring this baby up to its "1.5 gig max"

the Hard drive is connected but practically EMBEDDED into the motherboard,.. and like getting to the ram slot, you will need to take nearly EVERYTHING out of the casing and then flip the motherboard over after disconnecting all the tiny little cables.

All of this might sound like im bashing it, but in all honesty im not, im just pointing out what to expect if you plan to upgrade the unit. for example...installing a SSHD or..a bigger ram chip.

(personally i would have preferred a 2gig max, not 1.5)

ok with that aside ill go into its PROS..

this little laptop has a BEAUTIFUL LED display! Very clear and colorful. its also FAST the Intel Atom processor runs great..and just in case your wondering..it can do some 3d Games! my friend uses this to play WORLD OF WARCRAFT..and Fiesta online! (grafx are scaled down of course..but both games are playable)

the hard drive space at 160 gigs is monstrous!!!! loaded up with 100 DVD quality movies its the perfect thing to keep you busy for a while.

The keyboard is MUCH better in size than some of the other netbooks i have seen ..and it saddens to say it, because i am a ASUS fanboy...the keyboard is better than the ASUS..easier to type on.

 "Great little netbook!" 2009-11-15
By D. Estes (Queen Creek, AZ USA)
We bought this netbook for our 12 year old daughters birthday for her to do homework, email and internet on. It is such a great little machine that I am now buying one for myself. It is as speedy and smooth as my $1,000 laptop!!

 "Incredibly Slow" 2009-10-22
By Linda Dickson (Maine)
I am not sure if I am going to send this back or not. Will start off by saying in the past I was partners in a small computer business. So, know some about computers. I realize I can not compare this to my lap and desktop computers.

This netbook takes a very long time to do everything. Start up, get anywhere, go online, shut down. I had read reviews saying how fast theirs were~ what is wrong with mine? I have gone into msconfig to try to stop a zillon preinstalls from loading. It still is very slow. I turn it on, can literally go to another room, get a cup of coffee come back and it is still booting.

There seems to be a delay every time I click the mouse~ like it is trying to figure out what to do. No way I could multitask on it. The hourglass spins and spins.

I have a linksys wireless home network. Every other computer in the house connects at 16-20m. I can not get the netbook to even 5m. Facebook is impossible to use. Almost slower then dialup.

I do like the size and ease of using. It is pretty and convenient; but feel it is so slow it is close to being worthless. Anyone with suggestions I am open to about anything before seriously considering returning it.

"Horrible Customer Service - Avoid Acer!!!!" 2009-10-10
By Mel Capp (Tampa Bay, FL USA)
I would have rated this laptop fairly high, we got it at a good price, and it was perfect for my son to use to access the internet (and not tie up our other computers).

BUT...we had a problem with the video component of the laptop after only about 6 months. We returned it to Acer (they have no local service facility and they REQUIRE that you ship it back to them at YOUR cost) for repair because it was still under warranty. About two weeks later we received the laptop back, with an apparent puncture in the screen and huge cracks emanating from that down either side of the screen. There was no note or explanation from Acer.

I called Acer Tech Support and I was told that there is a crack in the screen and I had to pay $199 for them to repair it.

I told them that there was NOT a crack in the screen when I sent it to them, that I shipped it to them following their instructions to the letter (actually it was packed better than they suggested, in about 5 inches of bubble wrap all around), and I expected them to repair or replace the laptop.

They claim that the damage must have been caused in shipping, but I disagree. I honestly believe they caused the damage and are now trying to cover it up. In the interest of customer service, you would think they would just fix or replace it (what would that cost them in real costs? $100? Come on Acer, grow up). As it was I was on the phone for two hours straight, first with foreign (India) tech support reps, and then with US based (I think) Customer Service reps. I spoke to 4 different people and they were all steadfast in their determination not to help me - to them, apparently, I was a liar and therefore I had to pay for the repair.

I asked for a mailing address so I could file a written complaint with their company, and the CS rep said he didn't know the address where he came to work every day (this exchange provided the only comic relief in hours of painful exchange - I said "OK, when you drive in in the morning, what does it say on the front of the building?" He replied that he didn't know).

I called Amazon customer service the next day, and was told it was the manufacturer's responsibility to take care of this and that Amazon couldn't (or rather wouldn't) help me.

Acer says I have to go to the shipper and try to get money from them. I believe that Acer caused the damage (and if they didn't, their product is inherently defective if it cannot be shipped in a closed position) and they should do the right thing and replace the now completely unusable laptop.

I would avoid buying any Acer product unless you are prepared for a Customer Service nightmare. A good deal on a cheap little laptop isn't such a good deal after all when the company won't stand behind their product, and when Amazon won't stand behind their most faithful customers.

If you have already purchased an Acer product, and find that you need to return it for service - take pictures of every aspect of the product before you ship it. This way when they call you, their customer, a liar, you have photographic evidence to the contrary.

If you haven't purchased an Acer product yet - think twice. You may pay a little more for Sony or LG or another higher quality brand, but you might find you have a partner rather than an enemy when you need their help.

I am giving this one star only because you can't go any lower.

Shame on you, Acer and Amazon, for the awful treatment of your customers.

Addendum: I sent Amazon a copy of this review and they offered to refund the purchase price. They did this within 20 minutes of my sending an e-mail through their "Contact Us" page. Way to go, Amazon - you have restored my faith in you. Acer, however, continues to battle me every step of the way, and regardless of Amazon's noble action, I plan to file a complaint with the BBB and elsewhere.
