 "Good in the Beginning:-(" 2009-10-09
By Booker T Washington (Bangkok, Thailand)
The battery arrived in a little box. Inside was foam and the battery in a plastic bag. Nothing else other than the Amazon.com packing slip. I put it in my computer, and it showed an 80% charge and a time remaining of 7+ hours. Sweet. I fully charged the battery. It was showing different times remaining in Windows but no big deal. I fully discharged the battery, then charged it again. This time, I turned on the computer at 05:55 and left it on while I went to work. The wireless was on but it went into hibernation. When I got home, I checked the remaining time and it was over 9 hours. I used it for the rest of the day, and left it on when I went to bed. The next morning, I plugged it in to recharge. When I came home after working 8 hours, the computer showed that the battery was fully charged. I turned the computer on, and Windows showed only 33% remaining on the battery, with the battery icon corresponding to the remaining power. I plugged it back in to charge again. Once again, the computer showed that the battery was fully charged but when I turned the computer on, still at 33%. I tried 3 more times with the same results. Battery is on it's way back to Amazon.com. I liked this battery so much initially that I had already ordered another one since I have two netbooks. I have received the second battery and will let you know how it goes.

"Great Price - Great Battery" 2009-10-09
By Patricia
When I purchased the Acer, reviews on the original battery were poor. I new going in that it would be a problem, but I figured I would just replace in time. The problem was that when the netbook first came out, the replacement batteries were about $100. each, and it was very limited where you would buy one. Thats 1/3 of the price of the computer. Months past, and Amazon came thru with this unit. OK, its big and heavy, but thats compared the original, and i like the way it tilts the netbook up. It has rubber feet, so it does not slide, and most important, with heavy use[...] this battery has lasted more than 6 hours. Maybe more, i really dont keep track, but I have yet to get a "plug in now, battey low" message after hours of use. And thats exactly what i wanted.

 "Beware of conditioning" 2009-10-06
By D. Vineyard (Texas, USA)
Beware that some reviewers recommend conditioning of this battery to extend its life.

NEVER DRAIN COMPLETELY!

Do some searching and you will find that Lithium-ion really cannot be conditioned. Conditioning was required with NiCad.

In fact if you drain them too far too many times they will become a door stop. Dead as a door nail. I followed the advise here and did just that. Now my battery is dead and will no longer charge. Searched and found a LOT of bad information about this until I found some authoritative sites that know bsatteries. They explained that excessive draining of a lithium-ion battery can result in a battery that will no longer take a charge. Sound familiar? Yes. I drained mine too far.

As for the battery... before it died it was working pretty good. I was gettinng over 8 hours out of it. I ding the quality a bit because I wasn't even done with three of the so called conditioning cycles before the battery totally went inert. Seems a better quality product wouldn't have died so soon.

Other reviews saying the battery died quickly too may be a clue to the problem too. But all in all it seemed to be working well up to that point. Just do not drain it below 15% to be safe. Even the provided manual talks about conditioning, but they also say to recharge at the alert level, which is around 12 or 13 percent. Not completely drained like was suggested in some reviews and external anwers sites.

Appears to be well made, but failed within a few charge cycles. No longer accepts any charge.

 "Flying blind" 2009-09-29
By M. Hull (Fort Wayne, IN United States)
After waiting nearly two weeks for my order to finally show up, I installed it into the back of the laptop to give it it's first full charge. The first thing I noticed was that the amber colored LED on the laptop did not light up (the laptop's way of telling me that it is charging the battery, it turns green when the battery is full).

So, I'm wondering if I have it seated completely, yep, it's in as far as it will go. I check the windows power meter, it says that the machine is running on AC power and that total power remaining is unknown. I put the OEM 3 cell battery back in and the LED immediately lit up amber for a couple minutes then went back to green. Just like I would have expected a fully charged battery to react.

In typical windows fashion, I figure if all else fails, reboot. I decided to go into BIOS to check to see if there were any settings related to battery. Nope. Unplugging the power supply revealed that the battery was connected to the motherboard and powering the machine. I let windows boot, here's where it got even weirder.

The windows power manager continued to report that the machine was on AC power and that remaining battery life was "unknown". Plugging in the power supply still does nothing to the LED charging indicator light, but I notice that the LCD display gets brighter when I plug in the AC adapter, so it must be charging, right? Again, I plugged in the OEM 3 cell battery and the power LED came on indicating that it was charging the battery.

After googling the problem, someone suggested that I flash the BIOS on the laptop because some machines don't recognize higher capacity batteries unless they know how to communicate with the management chip in the battery to know the state of charge. That sounded somewhat reasonable, so I got up on ACER's website and found that there was in fact a BIOS upgrade available. Downloaded, installed, no difference.

Although the machine seems to function on battery, I have no idea what the power status of the battery is. Is it charging, is it full, how much battery life is remaining are all unknowns. As of this time, the machine has been on the battery for about 2 hours, and it still reports that it is plugged into AC power and remaining battery power is unknown.

I'm deeming it defective and sending it back and will be ordering a different brand.
