"The Acer Aspire One; it's lightweight. That's is; nothing more." 2009-11-11
By Bookworm (San Jose, CA USA)
Such a cute little netbook. The only feature it has going for it is that it's extremely lightweight. But if you actually need to DO anything - like surf the web? have more than one application running? use MS Office? play a kids' game like Farm Frenzy 2? - then this little netbook is useless. The poor little thing is like an opossum - it freezes at the littlest noise, and plays dead if it senses you want it to do anything more than just look cute.

If you are part of the purchasing decision on this little item, then save yourself a lot of aggravation and move on to the next item on your list to evaluate. This one just has no guts whatsoever.

Good luck.

"Fast, light, easy...Just what I was looking for." 2009-10-16
By M. Minch (Los Angeles)
I purchased my Acer netbook to take with me on a recent trip to France. I needed email access (own my own business) so I could keep in touch. The netbook worked perfectly. I had great wireless internet coverage. I was also able to make and change reservations & access maps. I'm so glad I purchased this. It made my trip a delight and reduced stress for me and my employees since they were able to communicate with me while I was on vacation. Plus I could fit it in my purse and it's not heavy. The Acer performed just as I expected - fast, easy to use, easy to transport. Now I'm working on integrating it into my everyday work life and taking it on consultations. Two thumbs up!

 "Very impressed" 2009-09-28
By Boris A. Frenkel
I bought this netbook this weekend in [...] where it comes bundled with a case, mouse and external DVD burner. What a great, powerful toy! I immediately upgraded it to Windows 7 and I am very impressed how easy it was to install and how well this little thing performs. Unfortunately you cannot upgrade from Windows XP, you have to simply reinstall OS and then all the programs, but that has been very easy. Windows 7 found all the devices on the netbook, including webcam, microphone, speakers, card reader and bluetooth mouse. Playback of video, animated windows, loading heavy programs - you don't feel any pain. The battery life is great - I did not have a chance to compare with XP, but it lasts under Windows 7 not less than advertized, and I am pretty active user who does not like dimmed screen. The only negative thing I can say about this notebook is my fingerprints on the lid make it look pretty dirty right away. I wish it was not so shiny. Otherwise, it is a great product, highly recommended.

 "A great backup" 2009-09-12
By Patrick Perdu (Costa Rica)
I bought one of these last winter for my wife before going to travel Europe, and we liked it so much I bought another one this summer as a backup for my (too big) laptop.

The battery life we get out of it is enough to last the whole 10 hour flight from Caracas to Paris. It is not as powerful as a state of the art laptop such as the one I spend my life on, but all in all it has all what we need, provided that you add an external optic drive (which we did).

It is more than enough for on-the-road communication, accounting and photo processing and storage and though the video card and the cranking power will not allow you to play fancy flight simulators they are well suited to travel needs.

I had to use if occasionally for a quick fix in code and I feared it would be a drag to edit source files on such a samll screen or that it would take ages to compile but no: the screen is really good and, though not as wide as I would need on a daily basis, enough to perform the tasks at hand. The building of the project was noticeably slower than with my work horse but in no way outrageous.

When on the road with it I don't need to unplug all my lab from the main laptop every night: I can Skype my wife from the hotel and read the news at breakfast - very convenient.

All in all a great backup/on-the-road PC.

 "Useful for travel" 2009-09-10
By Impe (Ann Arbor, MI United States)
I bought this netbook with one purpose in mind, to have something lightweight with a long battery life for when I'm on the road. It fulfills those functions very well. I didn't give it a fifth star for two reasons. First, it is difficult to load software if you have CDs since there is no CD-ROM drive. Second, the keyboard feels a little cheap. I am hoping this doesn't mean problems down the line. So far, so good.
